Hiking
If you're into
hiking, Hong Kong offers plenty of opportunities. The Hong Kong Island Sunset
Trail is an easy 3.5km hike that starts with a very gentle incline. Once at the
top, you'll be rewarded with sweeping views of the city, including the stunning
Kowloon waterfront. You'll also get some spectacular views of the sun setting
over Kowloon. The hike should take about an hour.
The Hong Kong
government is committed to ensuring that hiking trails are safe and accessible.
The government has invested in hiking infrastructure and maintains a website
that lists 63 different hiking trails. It has also paved walkways, installed
railings, and posted signs warning hikers of potential dangers.
One of the best
hikes in Hong Kong is the Victoria Peak Trail, which is great for families and
non-hikers alike. In 2004, the trail was rated as one of Asia's best urban
hikes by Time Magazine. The hike is well-shaded and starts on a dirt track and
soon leads to the first of several viewpoints. From here, you can see the
famous Big Wave Bay.
You can also hike
the Lantau Island, which is located between Sok Kwu Wan and Yung Shu Wan. There
are no four-wheel-drives allowed here, so you'll have to hike on foot. On your
way, you can visit the Kamikaze Cave, a relic of the second world war.
Continuing your hiking, you can stop at Lamma Winds kiosks, which are 71 metres
tall.
